Product Review: American Crew Classic 3-in-1 Shampoo

The brand American Crew is a grooming range for men, so when I was asked to trial the *American Crew Classic 3-in-1 Shampoo, it obviously wasn’t suitable for me, but as hubby is always jealous of the products I get to trial, I still happily accepted so that he could get to trial the shampoo. Here are his thoughts;

What They Say:
"The American Crew Classic 3-in-1 Shampoo is a shampoo, conditioner and body wash.
Benefits: Conditions, detangles and adds shine to hair. Revitalises and restores hair. Remineralises and softens the skin. Invigorating cleansing agent that stimulates hair and scalp".

RRP: $32.95 - Available from select hair salons.

What He Says:
The American Crew Classic 3-in-1 Shampoo is such an easy product to use, and being a 3-1 (not that hubby ever uses conditioner in his very short hair), he has clearly noticed that it has shaved off some valuable time in the morning washing ritual using a 3-in-1 product.

The actual shampoo comes in a retro-looking and understated simple brown bottle, with an easy to use flip lid. It has a natural masculine scent, which is however still quite subtle, so that it does not clash with his aftershave.

At first thought hubby thought that it was a little weird, that it was a combined shampoo, conditioner and body wash, but after uses, the apprehension dwindled. The perfect product for the time poor man when he’s in a rush, although it does take away the excuse of a long shower!

By combining shampoo, conditioner and body wash with a simple but tasteful mix of Dimethicone, Citric Acid, Sodium Chloride, Sage Leaf Extract, American Crew has found a balance in formula that can move seamlessly from the hair to the body and perform the duties a specifically targeted product should do on its own.

Hubby wash his short hair every day already after the first wash you could see and tell the difference to the feel and look of his hair.

He also immediately commented on how nice it is to use the shampoo. In just one wash, the shampoo easily cleans the hair, and removes build-up from hair styling products, and leaves it silky soft, shiny and healthy looking. It lathers up easily into a soft foam, and in spite of it also being a conditioner as well, it does not weigh down his fine hair, but rather leaves it easy to style. And it is so gentle that it has not irritated his otherwise sensitive scalp.

Used as a body shampoo, it gently cleans the skin, without removing any of the body’s moisture like other store bought and cheaper soaps and body washes often do.

At $32.95 it is not cheap, however, it does come in a large 450ml bottle, and it is very concentrated, so a little goes a very long way, even when used as a body shampoo.

All in all this is a great product, and hubby is enjoying not only the results of soft and healthy skin and hair, but also using a specific man-product, as opposed to other even unisex shampoo which in most cases have a strong feminine fragrance.

Has your hubby ever tried any of the products from American Crew? Is he even into hair and skincare products? Or maybe he uses yours in the quiet?

  1. I'm a bit confused why "it obviously wasn't suitable for me". Are there biological/chemical differences in men's and women's hair? I know that companies market to separate genders, but that is only a marketing strategy as far as I know. I was hoping to get a woman's perspective on this product. Oh well, I will just have to try it.

    1. Of course a female can use it too - but it is just not for my long coloured hair, that needs products specifically for that. Also I find it is has a very masculine scent, but if you like that, and are just after a good everyday shampoo, then yes, of course it would be suitable for you too!
