After what was a very average spring (apparently October was one of the wettest ones on record) for Melbourne, it seems like the sun has finally come out - at long last. But that also means that it is now more important than ever to Slip - Slop - Slap. There are a multitude sunscreens on the market, but naturally I have my favourites that I use on my family and myself...

Starting with my small boys - they are both very blonde and fair skinned, and consequently even more sensitive to the sun - so I always make sure to bring sunscreen for them with me where ever we go, as you just never know if you'll get caught up somewhere, and the last thing I want is for their skin to burn in the sun. And this convenient tube of Kids Sunscreen from the Cancer Council is small that it is perfect for popping into the nappy bag. It has little hook at the end of the tube so you can hook it onto something on the pram or in your handbag, and it has a cute picture of Peppa Pig on it. But what's more important, it is SPF50+ and is waterproof for up to 4 hours, and it is specifically designed for delicate skin, so perfect for little ones.

When we're home it is naturally more cost-effective to use a larger bottle, and then I'll reach for the Hamilton Toddler Sunscreen SPF50+ which is also water resistant for up to 4 hours. Again, this is also a very gentle formula that is suitable for toddlers, as it does not contain any fragrance, lanolin or added colours, but it has been made with added aloe vera and vitamin E to help care for the skin. I love that it has next to no scent and that it absorbs quickly into the skin, and doesn’t leave my boys' skin feeling greasy or tacky

For my husband and myself, we love the Hamilton Active Family Sunscreen SPF50+, which comes in a very easy to use spray bottle. It has a very light consistency, and it absorbs super quick, and again without any greasiness, and I love that it goes on clear, so no more white looking skin. It does have slight chemical scent when you first spray it on, but luckily that quickly evaporates.

For my face, I like to use a specific sunscreen, as my face is prone to breakouts, I sadly cannot just use anything, as it makes my skin feel and look even greasier. If you're on a budget, you cannot go past the Olay Complete Defence Daily UV Moisturising Lotion SPF30+ which is a light lotion for the face intended for everyday use throughout the year protecting it from harmful rays and preventing sun damage and premature ageing. It is non-greasy formula, so it is also great for using under makeup. It is among others enriched with vitamin E, aloe and green tea, to help replenish the skin and add moisture. It has an almost 'typical' sunscreen scent, but it is very gentle and fresh too, and quite nice.

If you've want to spend a little more, I am currently loving the Kosmea Broad Spectrum Moisturising Lotion SPF30+ is a good option. It has a very light consistency, that again is perfect for combination skin as it absorbs quickly without greasiness. It contains among others cucumber and aloe vera extract to help refresh and moisturise the skin, as well as green tea extract to help fend off free radical damage. And I love that it has a slight tint - and although this is actually not really visible, it still makes the skin look more even. It also has the most gorgeous scent from the added orange oil.

When I want to splurge a little, I'm loving the Alpha-H Protection Plus Daily SPF 50+, which offers the skin a very high protection from the harsh sun and subsequent appearance of pigmentation, brown spots, fine lines and wrinkles. It contains among others pomegranate, to shield the skin against free racial damage, pycnogenol to help protect against photo-ageing, and mango seed butter to assists in protecting the epidermis from environmental aggressors, leaving the skin feeling silky, non-greasy and - and as someone with combination skin which is often looking shiny and greasy after applying sunscreen, I really love that this one actually makes my skin look mattified, and also doesn't make my skin congested, which many sunscreens often do.

So there you go, a selection of sunscreens for the whole family, and at every budget.
