PRODUCT REVIEW: VIOLET BOX JULY 2014

Yesterday the *July Violet Box arrived at my doorstep, here are my thoughts;

What They Say:
Violet Box brands promises to every month include 4-6 premium beauty and lifestyle samples from well-known and trusted Australian beauty brands as well as exciting new International brands, one in particular is a revolutionary product currently trending in New York and has been featured in Vogue and on the Today Show!

RRP: You can subscribe to Violet Box for:
1 month – $22.95
3 months - $66.00
6 months - $130
12 months - $250
- Available from Violet Box

What I Say:

The first thing I noticed when I received this months box was the new packaging. Previous boxes have come in a simple black box with a magnetic flip lid, whereas the new boxes are a slide design with a loose lid.

I have to admit that I much prefer the old black box design as they would be easier to use as storage, but I do have too many of these boxes floating around, and don’t really need any more, and besides, in the end of the day, it is the contents of the box that really matters, isn’t it!

So what was inside this month’s box:

Skin & Co Truffle Therapy Serum – Sample, 5ml (RRP $75/30ml)

I have never heard of this brand before, so instantly it ticks boxes as I enjoy getting to know new brands. It promises to give the skin a boost of hydration and fight off free radicals, so that sounds pretty good, and perfect to use during these cold months. Unfortunately it does have a slight scent of coconut, the one scent that I am not too keen on, so I am not too sure about this serum…

Sukin Skin Purifying Facial Mask – 2 x sachet samples, 8ml each (RRP $15/100ml)

I actually have a full sized tub of this mask and really like it, so as such I don’t mind the inclusion of these samples, although I would obviously have preferred to receive another product new to me. But the sachet samples are always handy to have at hand, especially when you’re going away, which however, unfortunately I do not have on the cards right now, but still these masks certainly won’t go to waste.

LAQA&Co Sheer Lip Lube Pencil - Full Size (RRP $20)

I have heard of this brand before, but never tried any of the products so I am quite excited about this lip lube. I got a pinky-purple shade, which after some investigation on the Violet Box website looks like is called ‘Stranger Danger’. I am a little unsure of this colour, as it is a little bright and bold compared to what I usually use, but still I do look forward to trying it, and I may be able to tone it down a little by just dabbing on a little, or adding a neutral gloss on top.

KMS California Hair Play Molding Paste – Sample, 20ml (RRP $40/150ml)

This moulding paste is supposed to give the hair texture, add definition and create a pliable hold. I have long thick and heavy hair, so I’d never ever us this. However, this may be perfect for hubby to use in his short hair, so it won’t go completely to waste.

Dr. Hauschka Lavender Sandalwood Calming Body Wash – Sample, 10ml (RRP $6 for 10ml)

I have used Dr. Hauschka products before, a few decades ago when living in Denmark and the products were all the hype. Since then, I have seen them around, but not really gotten around to trying them out again, although I did initially like them. The small tube is quite cute, and the body wash smells lovely, so unfortunately there is probably only enough for one use, in the tube, I would have liked a larger size!

So Susan Flutter Mascara - Full Size (RRP $32 for 4g; received full size)

This black mascara promises to give you the darkest, curviest multi-dimensional lashes possible, in just one coat, which does sound rather good, so I can’t wait to put this one to the test. I have not tried many other products from So Susan so that ticks boxes too!

Beyonce Rise Eau de Parfum – card sample

This perfume is actually not even mentioned on the info card, so must be a bonus sample. Generally I don’t really like those types of perfume samples as you can hardly get any perfume out of them, and it becomes a little messy too as you smear it over your skin, but as a bonus sample, I guess you cannot complain. That said, I am not that excited about this perfume, but only for the reason that I already have a full sized bottle, which I actually like. But for those who have never smelled the perfume, at least it will give some idea of the type of scent it is.

August Violet Box Teaser

Finally, on the reverse side of the info card there is a teaser for the August box that it will contain a Be a Bombshell eye shadow quad – and by the looks of it, there you will either receive a quad with orange/golden shades (=Madrid), or one with grey’ish shades (=New York). Both colours look lovely, so that will be a fantastic edition to the August Box.

So there you go, the contents of the August Violet Box. And generally I am happy with the contents, mainly because of the full sized mascara and the Dr Hauschka sample, and also the LAQA&Co Sheer Lip Lube Pencil, which I am still hoping to be able to get some use out of. The Sukin face masks also won’t go to waste, although there again was no surprise element in the inclusion for me. I am unsure if I will use the face serum and if hubby will even like the Hair Molding Paste, and the perfume sample I don’t care for too much either – but even so, with the full sized mascara and Lip Lube the box certainly does perform in terms of value, although, I am personally not as impressed as previous months, but that is again only due to personal preferences, and I fully understand how difficult it would be to please everyone! But as long as Violet Box manages to keep at least this level and value of products, you can only be impressed!
